Get to Know Dr. Ernie Thompson, MAGD

Dr. Ernie Thompson was born in Portland and has lived in Oregon all of his life. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Southwest Portland and went on to college at Brigham Young University. His education was interrupted for two years when he had the opportunity to serve as a missionary in Belgium. He still speaks a little bit of Flemish if prodded.

‍Upon returning to Brigham Young and playing baseball with them for two years before and after his mission, he got married and finished his college education at Portland State University. He then went to dental school, graduating from the Oregon Health Sciences University here in Portland.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Ernie has practiced dentistry for over 40 years and been an associate in several practices while building his own in Beaverton and Aloha. He also had a satellite office in Vernonia for nearly 12 years. He recently sold his general practice in Aloha so he will have more time with family and his lovely wife, Jennifer. He is excited to be able to work a few days with his son, Dr. Jared, in his thriving and ever-growing practice.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Ernie is the proud father of five children and eleven grandchildren and enjoys spending time with the family, hiking, golfing, Dutch oven cooking, and camping in the great northwest. “Dentistry has become more than just a career for me after the past 40+ years of practice, it has become a lifelong educational opportunity to learn more ways to help my patients improve their life and their appearance with their smile. I am now in a position after having sold my dental practice to a younger practitioner, that I can put the business side of dentistry aside and focus all my efforts on the needs of each and every patient.”
